The Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (RFCA) for Wales has appointed a new President.
Dame Shân Legge-Bourke DCVO, who held the role of President of RFCA for Wales for the last five years, handed over to HM Lord-Lieutenant of West Glamorgan Mr D Byron Lewis Esq KStJ FCA on Thursday 12 April 2018.
Dame Shân will remain as a Vice-President of the Association and HM Lord-Lieutenant of Powys.
Mr Lewis had previously been a Vice-President of RFCA for Wales, a role he assumed when appointed as The Queen’s representative for West Glamorgan in 2008.
A committed supporter of Reserves and Cadets, Mr Lewis’ interest and support for the reserves and cadets is well-known throughout the community.
Mr Lewis was born in Swansea in 1945 and educated at Gowerton Grammar School. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant (FCA) in 1968. Mr Lewis’ business career spanned 40 years, during which time he held senior positions as Chairman and Managing Director in a number of UK and overseas companies.
Mr Lewis was appointed a Freeman of the City of London in 1989. He also served as High Sheriff of West Glamorgan in 2004/05. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of St John in 2008 and he was appointed a Knight of the Order of St. John in November 2016.
Mr Lewis resides in Swansea and is married to Hilary. They have two adult daughters and four grandchildren. His leisure activities include all sports, particularly golf and rugby, classical and choral music and gardening.
