Colonel Basil Watkins DL
A former Commandant of the Glamorgan Army Cadet Force, Colonel Basil Watkins, sadly passed away earlier this week.
Colonel Watkins, 92, who died on Monday, April 20, had been commissioned into RA TA in 1956 and later transferred to the Monmouthshire Regiment in 1967. He served in Welsh Volunteers and 3rd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Wales. He was the Battalion second-in-command from 1971-72.
After retiring from the Territorial Army he then had a second volunteer career in the Army Cadet Force. He had great success commanding the Glamorgan ACF from 1972 to 1988.
Given the current public gathering restrictions, we understand that there will be a memorial service at some point post lockdown.
