The Employer Engagement team recently ran two ‘virtual’ Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Award workshops for employers and organisations who have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and are looking to be recognised for their ongoing support to Defence.

The workshops formed a key part of the Engagement teams ever evolving ‘virtual engagement strategy’ to promote participation in the ERS Awards for 2021.

On Tuesday 12th January, 21 people attended the Gold workshop, looking to progress from their Silver level status to the prestigious Gold award standard.

On Thursday 14th January, 27 people attended the Silver workshop in order for them to find out more with regard to progression from Bronze level to Silver status. The workshop focused on how they can demonstrate and evidence their on-going support to the ‘Defence family’.

In both workshops the essential and desirable Awards criteria were discussed in detail, support materials and guides were worked through and previous winners were on hand to advise potential applicants and to share their individual journeys. The workshops where fully interactive with a myriad of questions asked and answered.

Tony Fish Regional Employer Engagement Director for North Wales said, “It’s very pleasing that even in these extraordinary times with many other ‘diversions’ businesses still found the time to attend and to consider putting an application together. Immediately following the workshops there has already been a large number of completed Expressions of Interest submitted by organisations across Wales. This bodes very well for fully completed applications for the 2021 round.”

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) encourages employers to support Defence and inspire others to do the same. The scheme encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

The ERS is designed primarily to recognise private sector support although public sector organisations such as the emergency services, local authorities, NHS trusts and executive agencies are also eligible to be recognised.

Applications are now open for both Silver Award and Gold Award submissions and there is plenty of time to apply.

Silver Expressions of Interest should be submitted by completing a short eligibility survey here. The deadline to express your interest for the 2021 awards is 11:59 on the 16th April 2021.

Gold Expressions of Interest should be submitted by completing a short eligibility survey. The deadline to express your interest for the 2021 awards is 11:59 on 17th March 2021.
