The countdown begins….with #ArmedForcesWeek kicking off in a week’s time!
There’s lots of opportunity for everyone to get involved and show their support for the Armed Forces with online and virtual activity being ramped up – despite the cancellation of all major events next week due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This year the focus will be on specific groups of people on certain days and all are welcome to join us:
Monday, 22: Launch and Global Armed Forces
Tuesday, 23: Innovation
Wednesday 24: Reserves
Thursday 25: Veterans
Friday 26: Cadets
Saturday 27: Armed Forces Day
We hope that you will help us celebrate our fantastic Reserves, Cadets and Veterans during Armed Forces Week using social media and online platforms. You can show your support via social media posts by tagging us @RFCAforWales (on Twitter) #ReservesDay #ArmedForcesDay and sharing a good news story of any of the Reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, Military Spouses or Veterans working for you.
During this time, there are many who have stepped forward once again to offer their services in an act of selflessness, to help those that are vulnerable, or less fortunate than themselves, we would love to hear their story!
If you are planning anything as an organisation, please do let us know, as we would also love to be able to celebrate that across our own networks. Please do send details of any of the above to our communications team via email@example.com.
You can also #SaluteOurForces – where you take the opportunity to pay tribute to our Armed Forces by sharing a photograph of yourself or family or colleagues saluting on social media. Click here for the toolkit that offers further ideas on how to show your appreciation online and includes logos and images.
Armed Forces Week is a chance to celebrate our Armed Forces, the military personnel and the role they play protecting the UK both at home and overseas. Two key days are Reserves Day on Wednesday, June 24, and Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 27.
Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces, balancing their civilian life with a military career to ensure that should their country require them, they would be ready to serve as part of the regular military.
The Reserve Forces make up approximately one sixth of our Armed Forces personnel and are key to protecting the nation’s security at home and overseas. Reserves Day was created to highlight and recognise the valuable contribution Reservists make to our Armed Forces.
This year Reservists are invited to take part in ‘Uniform at Home Day’ with Reservists encouraged to wear their uniform on June 24 and post pictures on social media. This could be your own personal account or your employer’s social media accounts. Remember to use the hashtags #ArmedForcesWeek and #SaluteOurForces when uploading your photos – and don’t forget to tag us @RFCAforWales.
Employers are also being encouraged to run a ‘Reserve Takeover’ on their Instagram stories – share your Reservist photos, videos and creative outputs with your followers!
